This is the 36th Step towards gaining the Programming Enlightenment series. If you didn’t learn the 35th Step, read it.

I’m getting exception XYZ. Dear GURU you know what the problem is?

What is Guru?

It is a Sanskrit term that connotes someone who is a “teacher, guide, expert, or master” of certain knowledge or field.

Why Guru is a myth?

“Gurus” are also human. They apply logic and systematically analyze problems like the rest of us.

Gurus also at one point knew less about software. Gurus are expert because of the years dedicated to learning and refining thought processes. They are a smart person with relentless curiosity.

Why Guru is a myth? If we remove the guru myth and instead of reaching out to him/her we move towards self improvement. Guru might give us a quick solutions which would help solve the problem. But, the problem with that is you will as quickly forget about it as quickly as you solved it.

Why Guru is a myth? If we reach out to guru for every solution, we tend to believe s/he’s the universal source of truth. S/He will make a very wise decision with her expertise and experience. But, you never know what rationale is behind the Guru’s judgement.

TL;DR Don’t reach out to Gurus for everything, instead try to crack the problem. Gurus knows the problem because they were curious about it in first place and faced it.

Go to the series.

Go to 35th Step

Go to the 37th Step.
